Working with living things opens up several opportunities for chaos. Beautiful vegetables which were looking ready for harvesting 4 days ago may now be infested with stubborn aphids. A sudden thunderstorm has flooded some parts of your farm and your vegetables look like they’re dying from root rot.
As farmers, we have to accept that uncertainty is normal. Our job is to plan our farms in the best ways that we know to protect our vegetables so they can be sold. But from time to time, unexpected challenges arise. We cannot always predict nature. But we can learn from our experiences to better cope with uncertainty next time.
